Upcoming May Movie Releases

I suppose I should specify, movie releases that I am excited for. Looking at my list, it appears as though there are only 3 coming to theatre and 1 on DVD. Well then.

First up is Iron Man 3, coming to theatres May 3
Brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr) is pitted against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy's hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to a question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?
I'm super excited to see this. And even more excited that it's not only in 3D. I'm not fond of 3D, though I am at the mercy of my boyfriend's friends, so I may end up having to watch it in 3D. Regardless, I can't wait to see it. Hopefully we're going to be going opening night. If you had asked me even a year ago if I wanted to see any of the Marvel movies, you would have probably gotten a resounding "no" however they are growing on me. It helps that RDJ is freaking hilarious.

Next up is Star Trek Into Darkness on May 17
When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving the world in a state of crisis. With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk (Chris Pine) leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. As the heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.
To start with, I'm going to say I am not a Trekkie. I've only seen the newest movie and that's it. But I'm really looking forward to this one because, well the trailers look pretty sweet, and I love Chris Pine and Benedict Cumberbatch. This one, I believe, is only going to be (at least here anyways) in 3D. Unfortunate. This one I will not get to see opening night, because I'm pretty sure I'm going to be working, since it's the long weekend. Either way, I plan to see it.

Last movie is Fast & Furious 6 on May 24
Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and Dwayne Johnson lead the returning cast of all-stars as the global blockbuster franchise built on speed races to its next continent in Fast & Furious 6. Reuniting for their most high-stakes adventure yet, fan favorites Jordana Brewster, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Sung Kang, Gal Gadot, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges and Elsa Pataky are joined by badass series newcomers Luke Evans and Gina Carano. Since Dom (Diesel) and Brian’s (Walker) Rio heist toppled a kingpin’s empire and left their crew with $100 million, our heroes have scattered across the globe. But their inability to return home and living forever on the lam have left their lives incomplete. Meanwhile, Hobbs (Johnson) has been tracking an organization of lethally skilled mercenary drivers across 12 countries, whose mastermind (Evans) is aided by a ruthless second-in-command revealed to be the love Dom thought was dead, Letty (Rodriguez). The only way to stop the criminal outfit is to outmatch them at street level, so Hobbs asks Dom to assemble his elite team in London. Payment? Full pardons for all of them so they can return home and make their families whole again.
That is a ridiculously long synopsis. But I'm feeling somewhat lazy and don't feel like looking for another one, so that's that. This one I'm not as excited about in comparison to the first 2. I think I'm just looking forward to it because I've seen the rest of them. That being said I feel like they need to quit while they're ahead and end the series. That's just my opinion though, and who knows, it could change after seeing the movie.

I'm likely going to do reviews on all these movies after I go see them, so look forward to that.

DVD release Safe Haven on May 7
When a mysterious young woman named Katie (Julianne Hough) washes up in the small North Carolina town of Southport, she is determined not to make personal relationships. That is, until she meets Alex (Josh Duhamel), a kind-hearted widowed store owner, struggling to raise his two children. When Katie feels herself falling for him, she must choose between familiar safety and the perils that come with love.
This one was cute. It's a Nicholas Sparks adaptation, so that pretty much clues you in that it's a sappy, slightly depressing, romance. I think this might be one of my favourites of his. It wasn't super depressing. I haven't read any of his books to compare the, shall we say accuracy of adaptation, but from what I heard, a fair bit was changed. I probably won't be buying this one as soon as it comes out, but once it's been out a while and goes down it price, I'll likely pick it up.

Are there any movies you're looking forward to in the month of May?

  1. Fast and the Furious needed to quit after the first movie. I mean, I loved it, but 6 films? A wee bit excessive. :)

  2. Well, yes, that is true. But at least other than 3 they all have the same characters (right? lol).
